Frequently asked questions

Everything important about pricing, games, rights and privacy – answered briefly and honestly.

Getting started

What kinds of games can I build?

Seven genres are ready: endless runner, platformer, space shooter, racing, number puzzle, quiz and story adventure. On top come two world projects: Builder & Economy (2D, isometric) and Open World 3D (low-poly).

You pick genre, scope, style and extras and describe your idea in one sentence – the AI designs levels, characters and texts, and our engine plays the game right away in the browser.

See examples

Do I need an account?

Not to play: shared games run without signing in. To build you need an account – you sign in with a link sent to your email, no password.

How long does a build take?

Rough estimates, not yet measured in live operation (the time depends on build model and load): mini games in about a minute, large games in around ten, world projects in about fifteen. When it is busy, we show your place in the queue and the estimated time – and you can play a mini game while you wait.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. All games run in the browser, with touch controls on phones. Open World 3D runs best on newer devices; the graphics adapt automatically.

How old do I need to be to build games?

16 or older. If you’re between 13 and 15, you need your parents’ permission – and for purchases and subscriptions anyway. Younger people can of course play the finished games.

Pricing and credits

What is a credit?

Credits are what you build with. Every game has a price in credits that you see before building. You get credits every month with your plan, or as a pack that stays valid for 3 years.

All prices

What does a change cost?

You describe changes by chat in the studio and see the price before every change. Small changes like texts or colours cost 1 credit, typical ones like more speed or a new mechanic 8 credits, big ones like new levels 25 credits.

If the AI doesn’t understand your request, it costs nothing.

What happens if a build fails?

When a build starts, your credits are only reserved. If it doesn’t work out, you get them all back – automatically, no request needed. You can see every booking in the credit history in your account.

Why does a game sometimes cost more credits?

We use dynamic pricing: when lots of people build at the same time, a build temporarily costs more credits – +15% at high demand, at most +30% at peak times. That keeps waiting times short and computing capacity affordable.

You always see the exact price before you build, and it stays valid for 10 minutes. If demand drops in that time, you pay the lower price. The price is the same for everyone – we never personalise prices. Prices in euros for plans, packs and gift cards do not change.

Do my credits expire?

Plan credits are valid for the month; from the Creator plan you carry unused credits over for one month. Credits from packs are valid for 3 years, gift cards for 3 years.

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes. Monthly plans can be cancelled monthly – with the “Cancel contracts here” button at the bottom of every page, even without signing in. The annual plan costs 10 monthly fees for 12 months.

Cancel a contract

Can I give a game without building it myself?

Yes. With a gift card you give credits, and the recipient builds their own game. Gift cards are valid for 3 years. Or let us build it: a personal game in 48 hours starts at €19.

Credits, plan or Play Pass: what is what?

Credits pay for building and extending. You get them every month with a plan (Starter: 300 credits for €9.99) or once as a pack (from 250 credits for €9.99, valid 3 years). With a yearly plan you pay 10 months for 12.

The Play Pass is a separate subscription just for playing in the Showroom. You can pay for play minutes with credits instead.

Build models, sliders and extending

What are Spark, Forge and Genesis?

These are the three build models. All of them build your game from your idea; the difference is thoroughness. Spark builds, checks automatically and repairs; it is the default and the cheapest. Forge plans first, reviews critically and runs a final test. Genesis also has bots play test rounds and includes the polish pass.

Forge costs ×1.6 and Genesis ×3 on the base price and takes longer (×1.8 and ×3.2). Forge and Genesis are available from the Starter plan. We check every game automatically, but mistakes can’t be ruled out. If a build fails technically, the credits reserved for it are credited back.

Which sliders are there, and what do they cost?

In the build assistant, under “More sliders”, you can optionally set length, difficulty, speed, enemy density, tone, story depth and music mood, plus switches such as double jump, shield or boss, depending on the game type. Only length changes the price: a shorter game costs less, a longer one more. Everything else costs nothing extra. If you change nothing, sensible defaults apply.

Can I extend my game later?

Yes, as often as you like. Describe a change by chat (“faster”, “boss at the end”, “2 more levels”) and you see the price first; it starts at 1 credit. In the Extend area you can add more languages (AI music, voices and trailers are planned but can’t be ordered yet), and from the Creator plan export the game as HTML5. Turning a game into a new one (remix) gets 50% off the base price.

Showroom and play time

What is the Showroom, and how does play time work?

In the Showroom you play other people’s games and our playing.company Originals right in the browser. You can try every game for 10 minutes for free, no credit card. After that you need the Play Pass (€5.99 a month or €59.90 a year, 12 months for the price of 10) or play minutes that you pay for with credits (1 credit per minute).

Your own game and games shared by link are always free and never timed.

Is there a bonus for creators when others play their games?

That is a possibility, not a promise. From the Creator plan you can set a play-time price for a public game and receive a bonus when others play it. A game that is “free for everyone” always remains possible.

The bonus is not guaranteed and depends solely on the time played. In the start phase we pay out by hand: after the monthly close, from €25, by bank transfer and after identity and tax details. There is no automatic payout provider yet.

Games, worlds and media

What are world projects?

Big games in the browser: Builder & Economy with production chains, or a 3D open world with vehicles and missions. World projects come with the Studio plan, up to 5 a month. They’re low-poly or isometric, not a big-studio production. Open World 3D also comes in the “Epic” scope with 2–3 islands (at most 2 a month).

Explore world projects

Which languages can I build games in?

The website is available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. The games themselves – texts, questions, dialogue – are generated by the AI in 20 languages in live mode, including Arabic, Japanese and Hindi.

Can I add music, voices or a trailer?

Not yet: AI music, voice-over and a video trailer are planned as extras but can’t be ordered at the moment, and there is no promise about a date. They would be labelled as AI-generated, and we never imitate real voices or people.

How many world projects can I build?

World projects are available from the Studio plan, up to 5 a month. They are playable for hours – but they are not studio productions made by hundreds of developers.

Can I build a huge open-world game?

Yes, at the “Epic” scope: 2–3 islands, each with its own city that you unlock one after another and switch between by ferry or bridge, plus 40–80 missions with a main story and up to 24 characters. That is the scale of a classic open-world game – measured in islands, missions and playtime (roughly 10–25 hours).

Honest about the limits: it stays a data-driven low-poly 3D game in the browser, not a big-studio production, and it is non-violent. Epic is available from the Studio plan for 5,000 credits (shown before the build), at most 2 a month. By our estimate (not yet measured) the build takes about 8–12 minutes. If it fails technically, the reserved credits are credited back.

See Epic

Why is Epic non-violent?

We build big open worlds for a broad audience and follow youth-protection rules, the rules of the platforms where games run and are shared, and the requirements of our payment providers. That’s why Epic – like every world project – has no weapons and no violence against people or animals. Tension comes from speed, exploring and missions.

Accounts are for people aged 16 and over.

More on youth protection

Can I offer my game on other platforms?

Games run in the browser on playing.company and are tied to the platform: you play, share and publish them via our site. The exception is the HTML5 export from the Creator plan, with the commercial rights from our terms; the AI label stays in it. Other platforms usually ask you to disclose AI use yourself; provider and models are listed in your game’s AI label.

An export for third-party platforms is planned; there is no promise about a date or prices.
